REACTIONS FROM THE VIEWERS
An overwhelming experience! The documentary beautifully captures the atmosphere and joy of the crew. Compliments to the makers! August’s presence was cheerful, and I experienced it as emotional. Myra Stark
Fantastic film, very inspiring, a must for everyone! Roderick van Hasselt
What a fantastic documentary, and how nice that the Azart has found such a beautiful destination in Ecuador! After the documentary, August was in the Roode Bioscoop to answer questions from the audience. He did that so well and funny – and in real life his eyes sparkle just as beautifully as in the film!
My husband and I came across the Azart and her crew in the port of Helsinki in 2002. I remember feeling proud at the time, because something so special came from our own Amsterdam. It’s great that such a beautiful Amsterdam history has now been captured in a beautiful documentary! Linda den Braven
A very inspiring film. Yes, a real film of our time. Allard
I was moved with tears on the bike back. What a beautiful and inspiring tribute. The animation in it was also nice. It has become a work of art in itself. Great that August was there, what perseverance and yet so soft. Linda
A heartwarming film about the art of tacking, about hope and seeing life as an adventure.
Jan Doense, director of the Film by the Sea festival
“I saw the film at the Film by the Sea film festival in Vlissingen. The whole thing touched me on many fronts, a colorful beauty, freedom and zest for life, a ship full of hope, in which birds of paradise like Dirks enchant us and release the best. Wonderful, as were the filmmakers who showed this to the world. As was the book. With many thanks for this challenging inspiring horizon that is hidden somewhere in everyone.” Diet Verschoor
“The film stole my heart, it is about what is really important in life: courage, connection, seeing life as an adventure and all of that with a positive sense of humor… If this film doesn’t touch you, I don’t know what will… Miry
“What a great documentary you have made! I didn’t know this story. The main character, organizer of all this beauty, narrator, effortlessly speaking many languages, and now I’m forgetting many, many more, is one of the most fascinating people I have ever seen. I watched with my mouth open the whole time.” Johan Timmers
“If there is one film that honestly and gloriously reflects what it is like to live with the day and fate, it is Azart – Come Make Art. Something that is almost impossible to find in the wild: the feeling of freedom to go and stand where you want and to spread your creative ideas without limitations. At least that is what the passengers of the Azart strive for, but which cannot always be met in this world with imposed rules and restrictions. The perseverance, the enjoyment of the simple obvious things in life and the belief in your life mission were most awakened in me after seeing this film. A gem made at sea.” Corine Twisk
“Moving, inspiring, “what life is about”, heartwarming, “you wish you were as brave as…” Gem…
August is completely himself in a loving, non-judgmental way! August for president! ” Maria
“A great document….pursue your dream….rarely beautiful film…unique in every way..” Rob Bastiaansen
“By chance my husband and I saw the film in the cinema on Saturday 1 June. We enjoyed the film immensely, but we reacted with disbelief when you arrived at the end of the film!! We are glad to know that at least one person in this world has been living the life he has chosen for many years. The film showed us that you have lived your whole life as quite an adventure and had a lot of fun. Sometimes people get addicted to the things they own. You never let that happen! We salute you, August!” Debra Faust-clancy
“This documentary is fantastic in every sense of the word. Inspiring and enchantingly beautiful!” Wiel
“You have created a beautiful story in the documentary. I also kept wondering why I had completely missed his existence. But he deserves to be in the spotlight with the boundary-crossing and connecting art.” Rinske
.“Wow………Mom, I don’t know if I want to come. It’s so late. It’s because Duuk wants to come, otherwise I would stay home. During the film I hear my daughter talking out loud. About the languages the captain speaks, the leaks, the children on the ship. As if she is already talking to the captain. Halfway through she leans towards me and says: ‘I’m glad I went.’
At the end of the film I wipe away a tear. To top it all off, the captain comes to answer questions. My daughter can’t put her finger in the air fast enough. And not just once. Her brother and the other children present eagerly join in asking questions. They have clearly been watching with attention. How grateful I am that my children have seen this film. This is how it can be done. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.” Katrien Markus
“What a wonderful documentary movie of such an amazing positive happening! Very inspiring!” Kao
“It is a beautiful and worthy film about hope and perseverance and idiotic projects that ultimately succeed! It also has very beautiful images of an Amsterdam time long ago. When we were still small and our city was still messy and without tourism. Enjoy this beautiful document. An improbable and adventurous story from Amsterdam soil and beautifully made.” Stanja van Mierlo
